The Challenge:
Pest Management is an Important and Rewarding Career
It is growing and vital to the function of Urban Society!

- Homes are damaged by termites and carpenter ants.
- Food is contaminated and eaten by rodents and food-product pests.
- Children experience horrible asthma with the presence of cockroaches in their home.
- Flies spread filth and disease pathogens simply by landing on food.
- Wasps build nests inside of walls, enter and sting people, some are are deathly allergic.

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) at Work:
These are just a few of the concerns - and as pest management professionals (PMPs) our job is to provide the logical solutions to these problems. Not just by applying something but rather by analyzing the situation and providing consultation to the client on what needs to be accomplished overall.  Both client and PMP work as a team.  Some items (such as treatment) are done by the PMP and other things are done by the client (such as sealing  gaps in a building or cleaning an area) after being consulted to do so by the PMP.  This teamwork results in good Integrated Pest Management or "IPM".

  Initial Training:
Candidates will first study for the Massachusetts Pesticide License Exam to become licensed for Pesticide applications.  This exam is focused especially on building the competence to understand the use, safety and preparation related to the application of pesticides.  It also focuses on how to reduce the use of chemicals by understanding some basics of Integrated Pest Management, or "IPM".
Basic Field and ClassroomTraining is then provided to prepare technicians to service on their own.

  Quality Pro Specifications

  Continuing Education:
As a PMP you will receive training form seminars sponsored by the New England Pest Management Association and The National Pest Management Association.  There is also an online training course use provided by Univar.  For candidates with college background, there is a ESA Board Certification Program offered by the Entomological Society of America.

Job Positions

  Service Advisor:
Requires the ability to be in constant contact with customers. Existing services require annual review by meeting with the client and are renewed.  New services need to be set up on the
SmartBiz
® software.  Compensation has a base with incentives.  This role has a base pay and a commission structure based on both initializing new accounts and renewing the existing ones.  Must be comfortable working on computers as new services need to set up on the software

  Scheduling Coordinator:
This position requires a background in computer use, scheduling, and taking phone calls from clients needing to be scheduled.  Software includes the use of the industry-specific SmartBiz® software and Microsoft MapPoint®.
Services are scheduled on the computer, and the appropriate paperwork is printed out for the technicians.  Completed technician paperwork is posted and filed.  Scheduling includes the calling of clients to coordinate services and taking calls from clients needing service.  Knowledge of geography is a must so that scheduling is done efficiently to save unnecessary travel time.  The Scheduling Manager would also be in radio contact with Field Technicians to relay information about the jobs and to take information from the technicians regarding changes and customer updates.
